Save the Polar Bears

By Cami Palmer

Polar bears spend almost their entire life on the surface of sea ice. The sea ice is melting, resulting in polar bears not being able to access food as well. Polar bears aren’t able to swim that well to catch their own food. The sea ice is also impacting the polar bears’ energy balance. If the sea ice continues to melt and the polar bears continue to live off of stored body fat, as they are doing, they could possibly become extinct.

You, yourself, can help these poor polar bears by walking and biking to school, instead of riding in the car. You could turn your thermostat down in the winters and up in the summers. You can help reduce global warming by recycling, planting trees, and carpooling. You could “adopt” a polar bear through the WWF. After paying a low yearly fee, you will receive a stuffed polar bear, a framed photo of the polar bear you adopted, and newsletters. Do your part and help save the polar bears!
