7th/8th Grade Orchestra Concert

By Nathan Ma

Did you hear that there is going to be a 7th/8th grade orchestra concert? You should go check it out! The concert will be taking place Wednesday, October 26th, in the school gym at 7:00 p.m.

The sounds of the strings are soothing and pleasant! The orchestra will be conducted by our favorite (and only) orchestra teacher, Heather Madgwick, who has also picked out the best variety of songs for everyone to hear! Maybe you’ll find a special interest in the power of the strings!

Destruction At Munchers

                                                         By Ben Buffington

You all know Munchers Bakery, but what you don't know is that there was some destruction that happened a year ago. I interviewed an employee at Munchers that was there the day of the damage.

Warhawk Talk. What damage did the West students do?

Munchers. They were dancing on the sink in the girls’ bathroom and the sink gave away crashing onto the tile floor damaging the sink, floor, and wall.

Warhawk Talk. How much money did it take to repair the damage?

Munchers. $375.

Warhawk Talk. How did you know it was West kids?

Munchers. They were part of the after school group on Wednesdays and kids told me they were from West.

Warhawk Talk. After this incident do you have a limit of the amount of kids you let in at a time?

Munchers. Yes, normally three and if they can behave themselves there can be more than five. They can get rowdy sometimes but it's not their fault because we have such a small space.

Warhawk Talk. Is there anything you would like to add?

Munchers. This has also happened three to four years ago and that I would just like them to respect us. Sometimes I tell them to use their indoor voice and they say, "What's that?" And when I tell some of them to leave or sit down and they don't listen they just walk away from me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I was in there I noticed that one kid was throwing a football and one was doing the water bottle flip challenge and when the kid who was flipping the bottle was asked to leave he said, "For flipping a water bottle? Wow!" But there was a kid who made a mess on accident and he cleaned the mess up and said he was sorry.

So please respect everyone's property and remember when people see you acting bad or good they see a stranger but when they know you are from West or you have a West shirt on they see West Middle School. Represent us well, and remember West is Best!

Hello! Shakespeare Review & Credits List

By Ian Murphy
Play By Joseph P. Kochiss

Hello! Shakespeare is a funny comedy based on William Shakespeare's plays and life experiences. The audience actually learned a lot from the play while the 6th graders were turning the audience upside down and inside out with their hilarious and stomach-twisting comments. For example, did you know that Shakespeare wrote 37 plays in his lifetime? I didn't! He also was known as the Bard of Avon, meaning, in general terms, a poet. The Avon part comes from a river in England next to Shakespeare's childhood home, the river Avon. Well guess what, this information and much more was presented during Hello! Shakespeare! Amazing, right? Anyway, before the play started, the director, Mr. Goolsby, exclaimed to the audience that this was his 34th year of directing plays! Congratulations, Mr. Goolsby! The play lasted about 35 minutes, by the way, just enough time to send the audience home happy. If you know anyone who contributed to Hello! Shakespeare, please congratulate them. Now, let's settle in and read the play summary.

The narrators and their helpers provided a biography of William Shakespeare who appeared in protest to make sure they got the details right. Drawing from his list of comedies, tragedies, and histories, Shakespeare's characters followed. They reenacted moments from their plays and recited famous lines while the helpers created mischief. The play ended with a performance of “Pyramus and Thisbe” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The next play on our radar is The Snow White Variety Show by Brian D. Taylor. This is an all-school play, and auditions were Monday, September 26th and Tuesday, September 27th in the auditorium. Auditions ran from 3:15 until 5:00.

Now, for the credits list, from the play’s brochure.
